Symptoms
Anxiety and Stress
Massage is an effective treatment to help decrease stress.
It helps to decrease stress by lowering the heart rate, relaxing muscles, and increasing blood flow. Within the blood flow are positive hormones of endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. These hormones give a sense of well-being, increase relaxation and reduce stress.
Headaches
Massage therapy has been one of the most effective ways of treating and preventing headaches & migraines.
The RMT will perform a quick assessment to help determine which muscles may be causing your headache, and whether or not there are any other contributing factors. Afterwards, all the muscles and trigger points (knots) of the upper back, shoulder, and neck will be addressed with massage techniques that will both increase circulation and decrease muscle tension thereby relieving any pain they might be referring to the head. The underlying causes will also be addressed. If stress or posture is causing the tension, then the therapist will discuss any contributing factors and postural issues.
Jaw Pain & Facial Tension
Massage can be very beneficial to relieve pain and headaches associated with the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).
Intra-oral massage techniques, facial massage, and massage techniques for the scalp, neck, shoulders, and upper back will be applied. This type of massage is geared towards eliminating ringing in the ears, dizziness, clenching, clicking/locking of the jaw, limited mobility, pain with chewing/swallowing/speech, and headaches near the temples and behind the eyes.
Exhaustion, Fatigue & Burnout
Regular massage appointments can prevent fatigue and burnout, letting you focus on your daily routine re-energized.
When the effects of stress are left untreated, chronic stress can result and concerning health conditions could arise. The eventual long-term effect could be exhaustion, fatigue, and burnout.
Setting your mind at peace with a massage helps to lower your heart rate, blood pressure, relieve tension and shift your focus away from worries and stress. It can improve sleep which then allows you to process stress better with the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killer. Rejuvenating your body with a massage will enhance your mood, mental state, and raise energy levels.
Disconnection with the Mind & Body
Restoring the mind-body connection is a nurturing massage treatment.
Massage can release oxytocin, often referred to as the "bonding hormone", which promotes feelings of trust, safety, and emotional connection. The massage and grounding techniques truly foster a sense of well-being that is extremely profound and supportive.
Stiffness, Weakness & Lack of Mobility
Massage can help with your daily functions if you are feeling overly stiff, sore, or weak from prolonged stationary positions or from overtraining and repetitive strained movements.
It is effective to improve blood flow, heal damaged muscle tissue, improve range of motion and joint health, and release trigger points (knots). Poor posture and muscle imbalances can lead to injury, but with regular massage appointments, you can prevent strains and pains before they occur.
General Discomfort During Pregnancy
Massage can support you from your second trimester onwards by relaxing and relieving new muscle tension and pains that are occurring due to pelvic changes.
During your pregnancy, you can expect a lot of bodily and hormonal changes. These specialized sessions improve sleep, increase oxygenation of muscles and tissues, and can reduce swelling.
Grieving & Bereavement
Massage can help alleviate physical discomforts associated with bereavement.
Loss and grieving is a normal yet difficult part of the human experience. Restoring a calming effect on the nervous system during a time of grieving can allow the person to process and embrace difficult emotions in a safe and relaxing environment. The anxiety, physical tension, sleeping difficulties, muscle aches, and depression that can arise from loss and grieving can be transformed after a peaceful nurturing massage that encourages emotional release.
